If you buy this unit to have fun solving puzzles (see next paragraph), then ‘have at it’…wear it out! Like all other moderately lower priced Chinese electronics products, documentation truly sucks. Now, to my general usage experience review of the TYT UV8000E Amateur Handheld Transceiver:Ī poorly written (translated?) User’s Manual a truly wasteful use of quality finished paper. I use all of my VHF & UHF communications equipment almost strictly centered on these activities and as an alternate means of necessary communication when the more common means are not immediately available. I am a licensed ham, Amateur Extra…not an electronics bench technician or software analyst. I’ve had this product for just over a year now, employing it regularly in Sky Warn and ARES activities and through 2 hurricanes here in central Florida (Matthew & Irma). “The distributer (, through Amazon) has provided me with this product free of charge or discounted price for review and feedback based on my first-hand usage of the product.” Great unit, lousy docs & software installer program! Otherwise, start with a new blank personnality. Two frustrating hours lost ! If you have a new TH-UV8000D and only need VFO or a few memory channels, use manual programming. The new TH-UV8000D was delevered with a corrupted personnality !!!! I finally found the solution: In the software, i've created a New blank personnality, (Ctrl-N), entered the frequencies and programmed the 8000. I've checked EVERYTHING with the software, discovered that on a manually (8000D's keypad) programmed channel, radio worked perfectly. for a few seconds before the 8000D came back to its muted situation.

And as soon he PTT'ed his TYT, everything came back to normal. No CTCSS, no CDCSS, no selective calling in programming. Solid Rx LED and Rx was perfect when "Squelch Off" side button was depressed. A friend of mine came to my shack for a totally ackward problem: His brand new TH-UV8000D remained totally muted on Rx, even with a good signal.
